Summer Splendor On the Lake and River

This weekend, three of our members will be enjoying the summer breezes near the water. Hester, of Hester's Studio, will be venturing up to the lovely city of Hudson to take part in their first Annual Hudson Summerfest, in Henry Hudson Riverfront Park on Saturday. Not only will there be a crafts tent, but music, food, local authors and much more.

Down-river a bit, you'll find Sue, of Digilio Designs, in a equally idyllic location at Garrison Landing on the Hudson for the Garrison Riverside Art and Craft Fair. This show is in its 48th year and runs both Saturday and Sunday.

Finally, if lakes are more to your liking, then Cooperstown might be your ideal destination. Kathryn, of HuzzahHandmade, will be participating in Art by the Lake, sponsored by the Fennimore Museum, on their expansive front lawn on Ostego Lake in historic Cooperstown NY. This show will be on Saturday, and features many fine artists, great food, music and local craft brews.

From Farm to Gallery: Two Unique Events

Organic Full Leaf Tea Trio by BeauTea Studio

This weekend as the days lengthen and the warm breezes prevail, our makers will be participating in two diverse events. On Saturday, at the estate at Madava Farms, BeauTeaStudio will bring their glorious assortment of full leaf organic teas, hand-crafted botanical skincare, soy candles and vintage teaware to the HV Market at Crown Maple. Beau Tea's products are a delight for the senses, so stop by to indulge. 

Next stop, Catskill, N.Y. Two makers will be taking part in the Summer Salon. The opening reception is June 3rd from 5-7PM, but the Salon runs through July 22, so you'll have many opportunities to attend (or return) until then. 

Included in the show are the exquisite masks by Dara, of Dara Gallery. Each mask is completely designed and handmade by the artist.

 Also included in the Summer Salon is Kathryn of HuzzahHandmade. Several of her wet felted pieces will be on display. The Center is right on the main street of this quaint village and there's lots to do and places to eat. Why not make a day of it, and stop by the opening in the evening?

This weekend is packed with very special and diverse events for Makers-on-Hudson throughout the Hudson River Valley.

On Saturday, why not take a walk across the beautiful Walkway Over the Hudson? The Hudson Valley Art Market will be presenting Make Her Day, a lovely selection of "artists and artisans, musings and musicians, sippings and samplings in addition to multi-generational Make-Your-Own gifts in order to truly Make-Her Day!" Sarah, of SO Handmade, will be there from 11 - 4. If walking across the river is not your thing, then just stop by for a leisurely stroll around the market and get your Mother's Day shopping done.

Kathryn, of HuzzahHandmade, is the Artist of the Month, at ReMADE, in Beacon, N.Y. Kathryn's felted wool paintings will be featured for a month beginning this Saturday. She will be on-hand for the opening from 6 - 8PM. Please stop by to share a glass of wine, some refreshments, and to see her new work.  ReMADE is a little gem of a shop that includes only handmade, locally sourced work.  It's Second Saturday in Beacon so there will be lots to do and see.

A Wrinkle in Time

 

"Celebrating inventiveness, imagination and innovation; showcasing wearable artwork powered by the imagination of art and science" is how the d'Art Center in Norfolk Virginia describes their current show entitled The Time Machine. The show is part of the Wearable Arts Festival running from March 14 - April 29 in three locations throughout the city. Kathryn, of Huzzah! Unique, Handmade Wearables , has three of her wearable art, nuno felted shawls featured in the show. Two painters were inspiration for her work: Van Gogh and O'Keefe. If you are traveling to the area, you could add a stop to see all the wearable art inspired by both Art and Science to your itinerary.

On Thursday, the 15th from 5-8 PM, two of our members will be enjoying the atmosphere at the Mid Hudson Etsy Makers Pop Up Market at The Egg, the new activities center at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Sue, of Digilio Designs, and Kathryn, of HuzzahHandmade, will be just two of a dozen artisans in attendance offering a wonderful variety of gifts for everyone on your list. Stop over for a quick bite, some shopping and relax by the floor to ceiling fireplace.

On Saturday, the 17th Yvonne, of Yvonne Laube Designs, Hester, of Hester's Studio and Kathryn, of HuzzahHandmade, will be in Pine Plains, NY, at Dutch's Spirits Distillery at Harvest Homestead Farm, from 12-5PM. The distillery is on the grounds where the infamous gangster Dutch Schultz once ran his bootlegging operation during the Prohibition Era. Depending on how you feel, either the dreaded Black Friday weekend, or the real beginning of the exciting holiday shopping season is now upon us. Fortunately, there are options, and our Makers will be out there for your shopping pleasure. Remember, it's Small Business Saturday, so it's a great opportunity to support local, artisan, handcrafted items. Here's just a small sample of the beautiful things you'll find:

Sue, of Digilio Designs, has a selection of her work at The Hudson Valley Artisan Market ,in Dutchess County, N.Y. at the beautiful Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie. Also in Dutchess County, Kathryn of Huzzah! Unique Handmade Wearables, will be back at the Dutchess Community College Annual Craft Fair for another year. This show is in it's 45th year and features two large buildings full of handmade gifts for everyone.

If you're in the NY Hudson River Valley or the Tri-state area this weekend, you're in luck. Our beautiful valley is dressed in the dazzling colors of peak Fall foliage and the weather is very fine. Lots to do, so plan your itinerary. It's also peak time to celebrate the wonderful variety of fine crafts produced in our valley.

Saturday only, please take a drive to Dover Plains, NY to the beautiful Madava Farms and partake in the luscious-ness of the Crown Maple Fall Festival. You'll be able to purchase some lovely teas and accessories from Jules and Olya of Beau Tea Studio. Check out the line up and vendors, and try not to drool.

On both Saturday and Sunday you can be among the first attendees of a juried collection of fine crafts, art, and artisan food and drink at Hudson Valley Crafted at Dutchess Stadium. Two of our Makers are participating. You'll find Sue, of Digilio Designs and Kathryn, of Huzzah! Unique Handmade Wearables. HV Crafted promises to be a premiere show in our area so please join us for its inauguration.

New Jersey will be sporting some fine colors this weekend as well. Certainly worth a trip to see Devon, of Gourdament with her whimsical and finely crafted pieces created from gourds at the Morristown Craft Market. There will be a large, juried collection of all types of fine crafts represented.

Finally, on Sunday, a trip to Warwick definitely should be on your radar. The Warwick Makers' Market features all locally sourced fine crafts. As we celebrate Columbus Day with a long weekend, our makers will be featured at two unique events. First, on Saturday, from 10 - 4, you will find three of us on Main Street in Beacon, N.Y. during the Second Saturday festivities at the Mid Hudson Etsy Makers' Pop Up Market. The event is being held at the Howland Cultural Center .

On Sunday, JoAnn from LollyPups Designer Petwear, will be a featured vendor at an event in support of animal rescue. There are lots of fun activities scheduled at the Hounds on the Sound Walk-a-thon and Festival. JoAnn will be bringing her adorable line of designer pet wear along with other fun accessories. So load the pooches into the car and come on down to have fun and support local animal rescue.

That's where you'll find our makers this weekend. Our venues are as diverse as our products, and you'll have great opportunities to explore and discover them all if you plan accordingly.  The weekend starts on Friday evening with Kathryn of Huzzah Unique Handmade Wearables. She will be among the artists at the Canvas & Cocktails Show from 6 - 8PM at the Castle Hotel and Spa, Tarrytown, N.Y. The show is a collaboration between the Castle and RiverArts.

Saturday, travel just over the border from Orange County to Milton, N.Y. and you'll be delighted to find several of our members at Nostrano Vineyards for the Mid Hudson Marketplace Fall Festival . It's the perfect time of year to enjoy this beautiful part of our area. The vineyard is perched in the hills above the river. You'll find vendors in their beautiful, large barn as well as in the field surrounding it. Wander around and find Gwen from Beyond the Picket Fence, Hester of Hester's Studio, and Sarah from SO Handmade.

Saturday will also find a member of our Makers' "pack," JoAnn from LollyPups Designer Petwear, in New Jersey enjoying the weather and the furry company for a good cause, the Bark in the Park .
