Saturday is Small Business Saturday - I don't think there's a better time to support your hard-working local crafters!

Two members of the Hudson Valley Etsy Team have markets scheduled for this weekend.

If you're planning to stay in the Hudson Valley may I recommend the Bust Craftacular at Basilica Farm and Flea? Our very own Beyond The Picket Fence will be there selling her wonderful soaps, lotions and potions. I'm a die-hard fan of her laundry soap so don't forget to pick some up for yourself! Friday, November 29th, 5-9PM Black Friday Soirée, opening evening celebration with Cocktails + Sales, Saturday, November 30th, 10AM-6PM and Sunday, December 1, 10AM-6PM.

In Honor of National Red Planet Day

Because of the popularity of Thanksgiving, the fact that National Red Planet Day is falling on that most celebratory of Thursdays in November means, quite frankly, that the Red Planet is getting the shaft.

In a battle of Mars vs. Thanksgiving, who would win?  My bet is on the Red Planet, unless Aunt Myrtle is making the stuffing.

Here are some fun facts about the Red Planet we call Mars:

• The planet Mars was named after the god of War from Roman mythology

• Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in our solar system

• Mars is the second smallest planet in our solar system

• Mars can appear red because of the fine, iron oxide dust that covers its surface

• Men really aren't from Mars (and just to be clear, women aren't from Venus either...)

Coping with the Holidays

The holidays are meant to be a wonderful time.  Love, Giving and Thanks.  A chance to see our families.  For some this is a magical time, for others it is full of stress and grief   The host has to round his or her troops and begin the planning for the grand gala. The guests are preparing for all the dynamics of their relationships that built up or tumbled down during the year.  A little strategizing can land you some survival gear for those rough holiday moments.

1. Do you have that relative who always has a controversial point, likes to stir the pot, rev your engine? Here's the solution. Throw in the towel before the melee even gets going. Go in conciliatory wearing this shirt from The ShaySki Shop.
