Depending on how you feel, either the dreaded Black Friday weekend, or the real beginning of the exciting holiday shopping season is now upon us. Fortunately, there are options, and our Makers will be out there for your shopping pleasure. Remember, it's Small Business Saturday, so it's a great opportunity to support local, artisan, handcrafted items. Here's just a small sample of the beautiful things you'll find:

Sue, of Digilio Designs, has a selection of her work at The Hudson Valley Artisan Market ,in Dutchess County, N.Y. at the beautiful Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie. Also in Dutchess County, Kathryn of Huzzah! Unique Handmade Wearables, will be back at the Dutchess Community College Annual Craft Fair for another year. This show is in it's 45th year and features two large buildings full of handmade gifts for everyone.

Up in Columbia County, in the lovely city of Hudson, you'll find the Basilica Farm and Flea and there you'll find Sarah of SO Handmade, and Christina of Hudson Naturals, too. The very popular event runs both days on the weekend.

 A Hullabaloo is Happening in Saugerties

Saturday, get ready to have a blast at the Hudson Valley Hullabaloo. This spring, the Hullabaloo is partnering with the Radio Woodstock Craft Brew Boogaloo featuring not only over 150 craft beers for you tasting pleasure, but a carefully curated group of designers and craftspeople from the Hudson Valley and the Northeast. There will be music, food trucks and lots of fun for the whole family.(Rain date Sunday)

Three members will be representing Makers-On-Hudson at this festive event. You'll find Erin from Harp and Thistle Stitchery with her beautifully detailed punch needle embroidery. Why not commission a custom beard or hair silhouette portrait for your significant other, or choose from a large selection of traditional to funky pieces for yourself.

Joining Erin, Christina, from Hudson Naturals will be bring her luscious line of body products including cold pressed avocado oil soaps scented with essential oils. Christina crafts bath and body products for both women and men. Yummy!

Now that we have your attention, just a note to let you know where our members will be this weekend. Most of the wonderful Farmers' Markets of the valley have opened and are in full swing again, so you will soon have the opportunity to test Mr. Keillor's quote. 

While you're waiting for the corn to grow, pay a visit to Gwen, from Beyond the Picket Fence down by the river at the Beacon Farmers' Market Sunday, May 31 from 10-3 PM. 

Gwen's shop is not just about soap. She hand crafts a variety of all-natural products to nourish your skin after a hard day of gardening, working or playing outdoors. Her products are not just for the ladies. Guys will find some luscious skin-care products as well.
